How To Get Business Success Part 3
Business Principle Number 3: Check Out The Company
What
do you think
is important when looking for
a business?
Sure,
the first things
you think about
are the
products and how much money or sales you can
make. Then
maybe you think about how you
are going
to actually operate the
business and make money.
In fact,
it is easy to get caught up in all the hype
there is today in the Internet, especially in the area of home based business and
making money at home. It seems
that every day there
are new get in at the ground floor opportunities, as well as so many offers and claims that it makes your head spin. To add to the confusion, there are heaps of Internet marketing product launches, specials, limited offers, bargains and not to
be missed deals that you end up spending money on other peoples businesses instead of making profits yourself.
I know, because I have done this myself I have spent thousands of dollars on numerous home business opportunities and on internet marketing products that I thought were the key to business success. Some were good, some were
a waste of money.
The thing that I have learned is to check out home business companies to make sure that they meet
a number of standards. It makes sense when you think about it. Because if
a company is not managed
properly it will fall
over. Now if I have put
a lot of effort into
growing a home business, the last thing I
want is for that company to fail because of
poor management. As well as the financial implications (youre in this to make money after all), you do not want to damage your personal reputation and credibility,
which is a valuable asset that you have worked hard to develop.
When a company fails, people think it is because of a poor product, or not enough sales. In fact, it can be quite the opposite.
This happens to small business owners too, because as the business grows, the company cannot handle the details. This includes managing the sales, salaries and commissions, and paying their own bills. And because they cannot keep everything going, they actually sell themselves out of business.
Of
course, there are companies that fail because of other reasons, like fraud, not keeping up with the needs of the customers and so on.
So what do you look for in a
company? Well personally, I always start off with a
bit of due diligence, which is as easy as doing a Google search.
Just to get a feel for the company (remember that there are always a few
complaints, so you want a general overview). I want to make sure that the company is legitimate, so it really helps if the company has a proper office and street address, phone numbers that are answered, and a help or support desk for e-mail enquiries too. I prefer it when there is a real person, with a name, in
charge of the company, so you can check them out too.
To be a successful company in a
growth phase (because you want the business to be growing and not
shrinking), the management team
must look after
* Everything to do with commissions and salary, including taxes
* All legal issues, advertising laws
* Customer service and support
* Training of staff and business partners
* Future planning and business planning
* All computer hardware and software issues, including security and websites
*
Quality control
* Human Resources
* Product development
* Communication
* Sales and marketing
* Delivery of products or materials (some are digital but many companies still provide product and/or training materials physically).
* International business
* Admin
And so on and so on.
This is just a fraction of all the things that companies have to do to keep
ahead of the game and provide a solid foundation for future growth.
I
believe it is very helpful to look at a home business companys track record.
If it has been around for a few years, is operating successfully and is handling the growth well..these are good indicators that things are fine.

Five Steps to Making Money With Other Peoples Products
If
you want
to make money online without having you own products, selling other people's
products could be
the ticket.
Selling others products has many advantages. You
do not
have to spend time
on creating
the products, you do not have
to set up
a system
to sell
and deliver the products, and you do not have to
get a merchant account and pay recurring merchant account fees. The person who owns the product does all of these things
for you.
All you have to do
is market the product and make
money with it.
So how can you make money
with other people's products? People who have created products usually run
affiliate programs. An affiliate
program is a way for you to earn commissions
every time you sell someone else's product. When you sign up for an affiliate program, you will get
your own unique id you use to link to products you are promoting. Once you make sales using
your affiliate links, you will
generate commissions.
Here are five
steps to
take to make money with affiliate products:
- Find A Product To Sell. Before going
any further, you need to find a product that will sell. A product should have a professional appearance, be presented on a professional web
site and be a quality product that you
would want to recommend to others.
Once you find the product, join the affiliate program for it and get your affiliate links.
- Create A
Web Site To Sell The Affiliate
Product. Having your own web
site to promote the affiliate products is best. I always recommend that you get your own domain name and web hosting to
host your web
site. The cost of domain names and web site hosting has come
down considerably since just a few years ago. You can now get a domain name for about $8 per year and web site hosting for under $10 per month. At these prices you don't have to be a millionaire or commit to a large capital outlay to start your own web site.
- Create Content For The Web Site. To get more visitors and more sales, you need
content for your web site. It is not enough to just link to the product with your affiliate
link. In order to make money with your affiliate link you need to bring potential buyers to your web site. A great way to bring them in is with content that is of interest to them, and is related to the product you are promoting.
One good way to generate the content for your web site is
by creating your own content and articles that are related to the topic of the product you are promoting. Another good way is by using the articles that were written by the author of the product. Many authors allow
their affiliates use the authors' articles on their web sites, and use the affiliate link in the resource box.
- Optimize Your Web Site for Search Engines. Search engine optimization is the process of modifying web page content and meta-information to improve the search engine ranking of the page. Successful search engine optimization will greatly increase the number of visitors that come to your web site. The more visitors to the web site you have, the more affiliate products you will be able to sell, and the more money you will make.
Make sure you optimize every page of your web site for search engines; that way you will get more web site visitors.
- Use Your Articles To Promote The Affiliate Product. Article publishing is a great way to drive traffic to your web site. Start by writing a few articles that are of interest to the people who would want to purchase the product you are promoting. Use the About The Author Resource Box to promote the product. Then take your articles and submit them to article directories. Doing this will bring more traffic to your web site and help you make more money.
Remember, you do not need to create your own products to make money online. Follow the five steps we outlined above to make lots of money selling other people's products.

We're Flying!
This is
the fourth summer that
the same flock
of grosbeaks has visited my yard. They
dont move into the decorative bird houses
because they live 200ft up in the pine
trees and I dont have a ladder that tall. They
do however, come several times
daily (read constantly) to feed at the wooden birdfeeders
and to drink and swim in the garden birdbath fountain.
This little flock was about 22
strong when they came back
this spring,
I am guessing we have more than 40 now. There about 12 individual fledglings that I can
recognize at the birdfeeders.
Most of them
are evening grosbeaks colored with bright white, black and yellow chevrons but a couple are some strange mix. I
get a great chance to observe them as they come in
for meals at the windmill bird feeder, they love the wide
platform since they are fairly large and sturdy birds.
The babies are almost full grown and eating up a storm getting ready for
their migration to Mexico (I think). The funny colored mama has hatched 3 kids and I can
tell they are hers by their odd feather patterns.
I have to take the time to
bring in all the bird
feeders every night. Whether it is decorative bird feeders or the wooden bird feeders they are at risk
from the
bears and raccoons. I have probably replaced over $100 of birdfeeders this year alone (due to my
own forgetfulness). I finally have pictures of those
rascally raccoons on the deck trying to get into the
seed can.
If I dont get up early enough I
hear all about it from the
whole flock. They send out spotters to prod
me into action and then report back
when I rehang the birdfeeders. They will sit by my
front door on a decorative bird house with no tenants and chirp at me until I get breakfast
out. They also let me know if the birdfeeders are empty at any time during the day. I work at home and
leave the front door open, they definitely know where to find me if they want something. They are so
amusing I will miss them in the winter and always look forward to their return. They show up a
few weeks after the robins get back.
